June,1984. On the remote island of Inea, the militia has outlawed all magic, and rival witch factions are at war. 

As war brews between the Council of Witches and Dissenters, a suspicious fire forces Emma into hiding. A descendant of nineteen bloodlines of witches, Emma has yet to manifest any powers, but sets out to rescue her last living relative.

Nor is the daughter of a sworn enemy and prominent Dissenter and the last person Emma expects to fall for.

Emma has to navigate treacherous alliances and learn who to trust as she uncovers a secret which threatens everything she knew about herself. Old enemies must work together to defeat a force the island has never seen, but how far is Emma willing to go?

About the Author

J. Cabral-Jackson is a family doctor and St Andrews Graduate with a Master’s in Creative Writing from the University of Manchester, studying under Professor Jeanette Winterson, Geoff Ryman, and Ian McGuire.

 

She was a finalist in the NYC Midnight Screenwriting Competition and the Pulp Idol Novel Competition.
